If you love sleep, you will end in poverty. Keep your eyes open, and there will be plenty to eat! – NIV (Proverbs 20:13)

It’s 3:30 am and I am wide-awake. It’s not because I have had the recommended 7 to 8 hours of sleep or because I am well rested, but Instead, it is a feeling deep down in my gut, that voice in the back of my mind, the constant reminder that I am not where I would like to be. It is the look in my younger sister’s eyes, it is the burning desire to repay my parents, to take care of my family. Lastly, it is the fear that if someone like me doesn’t step up Liberia’s health care system and every other developing country like it, will never improve.

As I look around me I see that my current state of “being” makes me uneasy. I cannot just “be” I have to get up and accomplish daily goals to get me to where I want and need to be. This is my daily wake up call, my alarm.

The fear of failure is real. I mean the constant struggle to continue to try when the odds are staring you right in the face. Look at me. West African, female, Caribbean Medical School, from a lower middle-class family with dreams of becoming a licensed medical doctor in the United States of America. Black women make up 2% of ALL physicians in the United States, the percentage that is Liberian? Well you can only imagine. The numbers, the charts, the percentage of people like me that make it to a place like that, is still very low. So yea, I can’t be contained in slumber and continue to sleep away precious time. I refuse to be a statistic! So, I keep awake at a night, planning my next move.

Remembering that many things are difficult to achieve, but it is by no means impossible! I’m a strong believer in hard work and time management! Put God first place and add those two things and you will be unstoppable!

Someone once said, “I don’t go to bed, I fall asleep.”  That is an empowering statement. It makes you want to evaluate your life’s choices. Are you sleeping peacefully while you have unfinished business? Unless your daily goals are met, sleep should become your greatest opponent. When you “go to bed” you have made a conscious decision to do so but when you “fall asleep” it is because your body has decided it needs rest.

I am in no way saying that you need to work yourself sick, NO! BUT YOU DO NEED TO WORK! Beyoncé is one of the worlds most talked about persons in entertainment when it comes to her work ethics. For those that have worked with her or alongside her have attested to how her work ethic is unmatched!

Each of us has a successful/wealthy person who we admire, ask yourself, how did they get there? Each person took a different path to success, but I can guarantee you that they did not get there by doing the bare minimum or nothing at all. IT TAKES HARD-WORK.

So the next time you decide to go to bed, take a good look at your priorities. Are you where you want to be?

You want a hot body? You want a Bugatti?
You want a Maserati? You better work
You want a Lamborghini? Sippin’ martinis?
Look hot in a bikini? You better work
You wanna live fancy? Live in a big mansion?
Party in France?
You better work , you better work
You better work , you better work
Now get to work!
Now get to work!
