Don’t feel like reading? Would you rather be listening? Check out my YouTube video on the same topic.

last January (2017), around the same time I started setting goals for the year, I also started a prayer journal.  I started the first week of the year with a 7 day fast and prayer Why 7? Well, 7 is my favorite number and it worked out for each day of the week. I made a list of the 7 most import things in my life at the time. Some being; my family, my career and my relationship. I deliciated each day to pray for a specific thing. Each morning, like most, I would start my day with a prayer. For these 7 days, I did not just say my prayers, I wrote them down and dated them.  I would leave some space at the bottom of the page or on the next page for when my prayers were answered.

That’s another thing, having faith that what you are praying for will be answered. When a prayer was answered, I would go back to that page of my prayer journal and make notes on how my prayer was answered, if it happened how I thought it would, and if it was exactly what I prayed for. I would also note the date and time of when it was answered.

As I prayed for those things I worked towards them. I wasn’t just sitting around waiting for God to move, I worked by faith. The Bible said in Philippians 4:6-8 to “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” As I prayed for changes in my career I worked towards those changes.

Once you are done with your praying and fasting, leave some room for some unexpected testimonies. Sometimes God will surprise you, and those are the best ones in my opinion.

For me, I decided on just 7 major things for the first week. It does not have to be that way for you. You can do a month of fasting and praying, once a week each month or even start off small with just a day or two. Make it personal and trust that God will see you through.

At the end of the year, I looked back over my prayer journal and saw all that God had done for me that year. Somedays, when I’m feeling down and out I go back and read over my prayer journal, it helped me a lot. Helped me realize that I was not alone and that God was with me and listening to my request. Tracking your testimonies is vital to the upkeep of your faith. When we are going through the storm of life it is difficult to remember what God has done for us but with this journal you have written and personal proof that he is present.

My prayer for you is that as you try this and journey through life, do it with God. I pray that he meets you at the point of your need. Build that daily relationship and trust that he will see you through.
