Firstly, I would like to apologize for my absence from this blog. It has been months since the last post.  I’m sorry.

Picture this: Monrovia, Liberia, it’s 1996 and my 5-year-old self is frantic and sad trying to understand why we had to leave our home and relocate. Strangers are flooding into our home with packed bags and broken hearts. Mommy and daddy are deciding whether to stay or flee. What was most important to bring along but also having to remember to pack light. My younger brother, Sam, is 2 years or younger.

I can still remember the frightening sounds of bullets as they flew back and forth and back and forth; We had to move on foot. We traveled for miles amongst a large crowd not knowing if we were walking in the direction of the bullets or to safety. Daddy and my elder brother took turns holding me up as I got tired, while Sam was tied to my mother’s back.

Where were we going?

How do we know it’s safe?

WHY ARE THEY SHOOTING?!

I just recently had to order a new passport. I struggled with making a decision on where to go to take the photo, keeping in mind that they last for about 10years. This is my nature when it comes to official photographs, I want one that looks good and represents me well.
In the past, I have used CVS/Walgreens, and each time I was very disappointed and unhappy with the results. My picture usually comes out looking very pigmented, with dark circles under my eyes and around my face. They hardly ask whether you are happy with the picture or if you’ll like to take another.

!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

This is my first official post of the new year and it’s only right to make it about GOALS!  Besides, resolutions are so last year. For many people, like myself, resolutions just do not work well. By February we have either already broken it or have completely forgotten what it was.

Last January (2017) I decided to do something a little different. I made a list of all of the things that I wanted to accomplish that year and the goal was to complete them by December 31st or at least come very close. It worked out so well that I decided to make it my yearly tradition. Each year I will make it a point of setting goals on the things that I would like to accomplish that year.

Here are 7 simple tips: Continue reading →

Hey my fellow 90’s baby, this is our TWENTIES! Whatever twenty-something you are, during this decade we fan the flames of liberty, exploration, and discovery. We venture in pursuit of all pertaining to SELF: Self-improvement, Self-discovery, Self-awareness, and self-efficacy.   As children we hoped to be in our double digits: 8’s wanting to be 10. Once we were in double digits we could not wait to be in our teens. In our teens, we wished to be 16 or 18 and then, at last, we wished to be 21! Now that you’re twenty-something… what’s next?

UnknownAs the year is coming to an end with only a few weeks left, what better time to discuss second chances. People say you don’t get too many second chances in life. I disagree. Every time you go to bed with the moon and wake up with the sun,  THAT IS YOUR SECOND CHANCE. It’s a new day, which means a fresh start. Continue reading →

What are you worried about you’re a girl you can just marry (insert a guy’s name here).

Why is it still so hard for some to believe that a woman can be just as good or even better than a man at doing ANYTHING, not just cooking and cleaning. We should be at a time in our lives where we don’t limit ourselves to the prehistoric idea of “a woman’s place” or “a man’s job”.

Being a feminist to me means being able to achieve any and everything my male counterparts can. It is not at all about male bashing or man-hating, It is about the empowerment of women. It’s about breaking the glass ceiling and going beyond societies idea of what a woman can do or cannot do.

You may have heard the famous story of Winston Churchhill. Nearing the end of his career he was asked to address the graduating class at his old school, Harrow (where he almost failed out). On that day he addressed the graduates with the following: “Young men, never give up. Never give up! Never give up!! Never, never, never-never-never-never!!” Continue reading →

My two favorite seasons are Spring and Fall. The colors of Spring and cool refreshing breeze of Fall, whats not to love?  Fall fashion is also another reason I look forward to the season. It might be the only time you can get away with sweater and shorts or shorts and boots.

We spent the day at Jonamac Orchard in Malta, Illinois. This is a beautiful location far from the hustle and bustle of Chicago.  There is something about the peace and quiet of farmland…

“Great men don’t cry!“

Growing up daddy would often repeat that statement to Sam, my younger brother. As Sam is sobbing, he would repeat it, “greeeeat meeennnn don’t cryyyyy” (lol- that right there was my best impression of talking while crying). It was so funny to me, and to this day I still tease him about it. Sam had to be 3 or 4 and his understanding of what it took to be a great man was definitely not a priority to him at the time.
